I build reliable data products and software for operational teams.
I’m Fredrick Mandela, a senior data and full-stack engineer based in Nairobi, Kenya. I turn complex operational needs into dependable data platforms, backend services, analytics products, and applications. My experience spans hands-on engineering and technical leadership across multi-country environments.
About me
I’ve worked as a Data Engineering Manager and Lead Data Engineer, designing data platforms, analytics systems, backend workflows, and quality practices for multi-country operations.
I’m strongest where data engineering and software development meet: turning ambiguous business needs into well-designed systems that are observable, maintainable, and useful to the people who rely on them.
Where I create value
I connect sound engineering with practical delivery, from source data and APIs to decision-ready products.
Data platforms
I build dependable ingestion, transformation, orchestration, warehouse models, quality checks, and reporting layers that teams can trust.
Backend systems
I design API-driven services, integrations, database-backed applications, and operational tools that connect systems and automate work.
Full-stack applications
I develop practical frontend and backend solutions with React, Node.js, C#/.NET, Python, FastAPI, SQL databases, and Docker.
Selected case study themes
Scaling a multi-country data platform
Built centralized data foundations, orchestration workflows, warehouse models, analytics layers, and reliability practices to support reporting and decisions across multiple countries.
Reusable migration process for modern system transitions
Led data migrations from legacy systems to a modern operational architecture, creating reusable processes, validation routines, and rollout patterns for teams across several countries.
Data quality and pipeline observability
Improved trust in production data through automated quality checks, alerts, clear ownership, and proactive monitoring of critical pipelines and reporting datasets.
Backend and API engineering projects
Built API-driven applications, database-backed services, integrations, containerized deployments, and full-stack tools connecting data, operations, and user-facing systems.
Projects
Selected products and technical demos spanning financial data, analytics engineering, backend systems, full-stack development, and applied AI.
Investar Companion
A financial-data platform that collects Kenyan unit-trust rates from provider websites and documents, then standardizes them into auditable, analysis-ready records in Supabase.
It combines provider-specific scrapers with AI-assisted extraction, preserves source evidence and confidence, tracks rate history and freshness, and exposes an API-ready market snapshot for fund comparison, advisor tools, and automated publishing.
AI SQL Analyst
A local-first Streamlit analytics assistant that turns plain-English business questions into safe SQL, runs the query against sample data, and explains the results clearly. It is designed to extend to Snowflake or another production database.
AI Career Assistant
A local-first Streamlit assistant that helps users create professional resumes and assess their fit for roles using job descriptions, with a future path to integrate with job platforms.
Dairy Farm Records
A full-stack farm management product for capturing animal records, milk production, feeding logs, health events, heat cycles, and insemination records from a Flutter Android application.
A FastAPI backend provides authenticated endpoints for managing farm data, while the mobile app gives farmers a straightforward interface for capturing and reviewing records.
